Our Process
From first conversation to final walkthrough, here's what working with Insight Remodels looks like.
Remodeling your home is personal. It's also disruptive and expensive — and if you've heard stories about remodeling getting stressful, sometimes unpredictable. This process is designed to remove as much of that uncertainty as possible: clear communication, realistic budgeting, and a single point of contact from start to finish.
From first call to breaking ground: typically 6–10 weeks depending on project scope. Every step is designed to give you clarity before commitment.
Phase 1 · Planning
Getting to know your project and preparing for the build.
What happens: You reach out. I respond within 24 hours — usually sooner. We'll have an informal conversation about your project, the scope, and whether we might be a good fit for each other.
What you'll experience: No pressure, no sales pitch. Just a straightforward conversation to see if it makes sense to move forward.
What happens: If the project sounds like a fit, I'll send a calendar link for a longer call — typically 30 to 60 minutes. Everyone with a stake in the project should be on this call.
What you'll experience: By the end of the call, both sides should know whether the project feels aligned. This is a two-way conversation, not an interview.
What happens: I come to your home, walk the space with you, and take photos, measurements, and detailed notes. I'm looking at the vision and the hidden conditions that could affect scope or cost.
What you'll experience: A thorough, unhurried walkthrough with honest expectations about disruption, decision points, and project realities.
What happens: I build a preliminary budget with real input from subcontractors. There's a $500 fee for this phase to cover specs, trade coordination, and a realistic budget range.
What you'll experience: Transparency before commitment. We make scope and budget adjustments here, not after a contract is signed.
Phase 2 · Building
Formalizing the project and constructing it.
What happens: Once the scope fits your goals and budget, I prepare a detailed line-item proposal with allowances where selections are still in progress.
What you'll experience: A proposal you can actually read. No vague lump sums and no surprises buried in fine print.
What happens: We move to contract, the deposit follows California law, and tentative trade coordination becomes a real start schedule — typically within two to three weeks of signing.
What you'll experience: No long wait after you say yes. Planning has already started, so the project moves forward cleanly.
What happens: Work begins. I stay your single point of contact, communicate frequently, keep the schedule updated, and document progress with photos. Scope changes go through written addenda before work proceeds.
What you'll experience: You always know what's happening. No radio silence, no surprises, and no handoff to someone you've never met.
Before we lift a hammer, we protect the rest of your home. Heavy plastic dust barriers seal the work zone. Neoprene floor runners protect every hallway and path between the front door and the jobsite. The rest of your home stays clean — and stays yours — while we work.
Phase 3 · Completion
Finishing strong and standing behind the work.
What happens: As we near the finish line, we build a running punch list together. The painter returns for touch-ups, the project gets its final clean, and completion is documented clearly.
What you'll experience: A clean handoff with no loose ends and no “we'll come back for that.”
What happens: I check back in after completion to make sure everything is holding up and the space is working the way it should.
What you'll experience: If something needs attention after completion, I want you to feel comfortable reaching out.
